2011 NBA Western Conference Match-Up:San Antonio Spurs at
Memphis GrizzliesMarch 01, 2009 by Marc Jerbs

On Tuesday, the San Antonio Spurs moves to Memphis, TN for a Western Conference matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies at the FedExForum. It would be a battle between the top Western contender team against a young and upcoming playoff bound group.

Last week, the Grizzlies almost subdued the Spurs on the road but were eventually beaten during the 4th quarter when the Spurs enforced a lock down defense that suffocated the Grizzlies' offense. The Grizzlies were playing good quality basketball and were in the lead for three quarters but lost focus and got derailed in the payoff period.

Tomorrow, the Grizzlies would have a chance to prove again that they can beat the NBA-leading San Antonio Spurs. They will have an advantage this time as Spurs' PG Tony Parker would sit out for 2 to 4 weeks due a strained calf. The Grizzlies could disrupt the Spurs' ball rotation if they could capitalize the absence of Tony Parker.

The San Antonio Spurs are still confident that they could manage and survive their remaining games sans the injured PG Tony Parker. Last season, the Spurs went 16-10 while Parker missed time due to multiple injuries. This season, he played and started all of the Spurs 59 games this season. Coach Gregg Popovich would definitely ask back-up PG George Hill to start for the injured Tony Parker.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed the Memphis Grizzlies as a 1.5-point favorite to beat the San Antonio Spurs. This game could get interesting as the Grizzlies try to outhustle and outwit the Spurs this time around.
