2011 PGA TOUR:WGC-Bridgestone InvitationalAugust 02, 2011 by Marc Jerbs

On Thursday, the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio will host the World Golf Championships - Bridgestone Invitational. The total purse for the tournament is set at $8.5 million and weather forecast is ideal for playing golf with occasional 6mph wind.

This week's golf event would bring a lot more die-hard gold enthusiasts becauses Tiger Woods announced via his personal Twitter that he'll be back from his three month absence and play at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

Woods has won seven times at the Firestone Country Club but last year he posted his worst 72-hole performance as a pro after finishing 18-over par. He has not played since May because of knee and Achilles injuries. During his hiatus, he severed ties with his longtime caddie Steve Williams.

Tiger Woods will be paired with reigning British Open champion and friend Darren Clarke. Woods hopes to atone his poor showing in last year's WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. It would be hard to do coming from an injury but everybody knows Tiger Woods is still dangerous playing injured.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed Rory McIlroy as the favorite to win the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. His main challengers are Steve Stricker, Phil Mickelson, Lee Westwood, and Tiger Woods.
