On Thursday, the College Football season in open in their respective Division I conferences. The offseason of college football was mired with Penn State's scandal and numerous reports of recruiting violations.

There will be 17 games on Thursday night with No.9 South Carolina playing at Vanderbilt for an SEC opener game. Among the early favorites to win the National Championship trophy are USC, LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma and Oregon.

The top 5 teams will also open their respective season this week on September 1. AP Top-ranked USC will face Hawaii, 3rd ranked LSU meets North Texas, 2nd ranked Alabama will go up against 8th ranked Michigan, 4th ranked Oklahoma squares with UTEP and 5th ranked Oregon will test Arkansas State.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed both LSU and USC as co-favorites to win the National Championship. However, as the season progresses only one of these two teams will emerge as the sole champion. Alabama, Oklahoma and Oregon are the teams that could be the stumbling blocks for both LSU and USC this season.
