2017 MLB Season: Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Chicago CubsAugust 01, 2017 by Marc Jerbs

On Tuesday, the Chicago Cubs returns to Wrigley Field to host a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. First pitch is set at 8:05PM ET.

This is the first of six meetings between both teams in the next 13 days. This match-up could serve as a NL postseason preview. Both teams are in thick of things for the playoffs this season. The Cubs are 13-2 since the All-Star break and now leads the NL Central as they took it away from the collapsing Brewers.

Arizona has the 3rd best National League record but is 14 games back of the LA Dodgers in the NL West. Their postseason hopes rest on a wild-card spot which they will compete against the Colorado Rockies. The Diamondbacks are just 10-17 after the All-Star break in comparison with their 16-3 stretch last June.

Chicago will put the ball on left-hander Jon Lester to counter fellow Arizona's left-hander Patrick Corbin. John Lester has 2.05 ERA and has won all his three starts since the All-Star break. He'll make his 5th career start against Arizona and is 2-0 with 4.63 ERA.

Patrick Corbin is 8-9 with 4.36 ERA but has won his last two starts. In his last seven starts, he as a 2.81 ERA. By being effective in his last games, he has lowered his season ERA from 5.19 to 4.36. The sportsbook handicappers have installed the Chicago Cubs as the favorites to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 1st game of the three-game series on Tuesday night.
