July 20, 2018 by Marc Jerbs

The 148th edition of the British Open often referred to as "The Open" started Thursday at the Carnoustie Golf Club in Scotland. The Open is the oldest among the four major championship and is the only major played outside the United States.

American Kevin Kisner grabbed the 1st round lead as he finished with a 5-under 66.

Close behind him is the trio of Erik van Rooyen, Tony Finau and Zander Lombard who all finished with 4-under 67s.

Defending champion Jordan Spieth is tied for 50th place as he carded 1-over 72.

This might be the easiest round to play at the Carnoustie Golf Club. Playing conditions has a possibility to change in less than 24-hours with a forecast of rain could made the golf course tougher to read and conquer by all golfers.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed Rory McIlroy as the favorite to win the Claret jug of the 148th British Open.
