NFL Week 16:
San Diego Chargers at
Tennessee TitansDecember 23, 2009 by Marc Jerbs

On Christmas Day, the San Diego Chargers faces the wild card contending Tennessee Titans at LP Field. The Titans control their slim playoff berth and possibly need some help from fellow AFC teams in order to clinch a spot for a wild card berth. Their resurgence can be contributed to the impact plays of QB Steve Young. With Young at helm, the Titans won 7 of their last 8 games to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.

It won't be easy to get a wild card berth, since Denver and Baltimore each has an 8-6 record and positioned atop of each conference. The Titans need to win their games against the Chargers and pray that the Broncos and Ravens lose their remaining matches. It's quite an impossible task but in the NFL miracles do happen.

The Chargers are in control of the second seed in the AFC behind the unbeaten Indianapolis Colts. They have already clinched their fourth straight AFC West Division crown. One thing the Chargers could do is rest some of its starters during this game especially their defensive linemen, who are all banged up due to the rigors of the NFL. It's better to play their starters on a limited time and have their backup players finish the rest of the game.

The sports book handicappers have sensed that the Chargers will not come in full bore against the Titans. With this analysis, the Titans were installed as a 3-point favorite to beat the Chargers come Christmas Day.
